Update on most posting

I have started a Tumblr account.  I will only be BLOGing on that page with the progress of my prep for the 2013 NYC Marathon.  http:://wharffrat.tumblr.com/

I do most of my posting via Twitter ( @wharffrat ) and                                         facebook ( http://www.facebook.com/wharffrat )

Google +  : I just haven’t got into that yet…. I have an account….

LinkedIn :  I have a page setup there also, but am not currently looking for a job….so I really don’t use it that much.  I do post KLOUT updates there.

I must be doing something right, since my KLOUT score is 47 today (10/29/2011)

I will use this BLOG to post interesting and important things for now.  At least until I become more active here.

Thanks for stopping by Smile

I ain’t no good at this.

Seems I cannot get or make the time to do this BLOG.  I will keep it open and see what happens.  You never never know.  I might just start doing it some day.  Then again, it might sit idle for weeks and weeks.  Who knows.  Don’t give up hope on me yet.  Smile

Steve Jobs 1955-2011

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” ~ Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs, the Apple founder and former CEO who invented and masterfully marketed ever-sleeker gadgets that transformed everyday technology, from the personal computer to the iPod and iPhone, has died. He was 56.

Apple announced his death without giving a specific cause. He had been battling pancreatic cancer.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today," the company said in a brief statement. "Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."

Jobs had battled cancer in 2004 and underwent a liver transplant in 2009 after taking a leave of absence for unspecified health problems. He took another leave of absence in January — his third since his health problems began — before resigning as CEO six weeks ago. Jobs became Apple's chairman and handed the CEO job over to his hand-picked successor, Tim Cook.

By the time he turned the reins of the company over to Cook, Jobs had become one of the business world’s greatest comeback kids.

The company he founded, was fired from and then returned to had gone from also-ran to technology industry leader. Under Jobs’ intensely detail-oriented leadership, Apple created several iconic products, including the iPod, iPhone and iPad, that have changed the face of consumer technology forever.

Going back to work on Tuesday!!!

We will be working under the old contract, while bargaining continues.  This is a battle won in the war.  Now, I have to reschedule my doctors and physical therapy appointments.  I tried to schedule them all in before the end of benefit date of 8.31.2011.  Since we are going back to work, that is no longer valid.  Thank GOD!!! We are going to Land of Make Believe on Monday, since Tuesday is my return to work day.  I wonder if I will get any unemployment for the time I was on strike???  I have to call on my return to work day.  I hope so….

We go back to work on Tuesday…

Aug 20, 2011

Following is a statement by the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers:
For release 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011
Washington, D.C. – Members of CWA and IBEW at Verizon Communications will return to work on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at which time the contract will be back in force for an indefinite period.
We have reached agreement with Verizon on how bargaining will proceed and how it will be restructured. The major issues remain to be discussed, but overall, issues now are focused and narrowed.
We appreciate the unity of our members and the support of so many in the greater community. Now we will focus on bargaining fairly and moving forward.
CWA and IBEW represent 45,000 workers at Verizon covered by this contract from Virginia to New England.

CWA/IBEW strike against Verizon has been going for 2 weeks today.

Today my Klout score is 10

I guess I am not making an impact on the internet.  The two people I follow, @pelpine & @calilewis have scores of 64 & 72, respectfully.  I guess I can only hope to close to them.  And that would be a BIG HOPE. Smile

Typical….

I set up the BLOG, used it for a couple of days, and then it just sits there….

Well, hopefully that will change this time Smile

Once I return to work from my disability and life gets back to a semi-normal state, I will hopefully set up a routine for my BLOG…  I have a return to work date of July 13th.  I have been out of work because I had Bariatric Surgery.  I got the Realize Gastric Band as a tool to help me loose weight.  I have already lost 46 lbs on my journey to a healthier happier life.

That’s all for now.

I have been missing my BBS days of old

So, I built a forum for myself.  It is the closest thing to a BBS I could get.  Since my ISP does not allow incoming traffic or hosting. Sad smile

Feel free to visit and join my forum.  I have made topic areas that I am intimately familiar with.

It all started in 1980 for me

We got our first family computer in 1980.  I was in 6th grade.  It was a Heathkit H8 computer with a Heathkit H19 terminal.  It had 64k of memory and two hard-sector 5 ¼ Floppy drives.  We also had an Anderson-Jacobson Printer (typeball printer).  We used both CP/M and HDOS operating systems for H8.

In 1983 we got a 300 baud modem. That was when I started Networking, by calling local BBSs or CompuServe.

This was main computer I used at home, until I got my high school graduation present.  We did have a TRS-80 model 1 and a Timex Sinclair model 1000 at home also.  And I also used a teletype connected to a mainframe, a Commodore PET and Franklin Ace 1000 (Apple clone) in high School.  But they were always secondary to the H8.

That’s enough for now.  I will expand upon my classes and projects in middle and high school on a future blog post.

I just finished setting up my You Tube page.
